An exciting new quilt contest from ABC Quilts!
The Buddy and the Starbabies Challenge
ABC Quilts Volunteers:
We would like to invite you to participate in our first Buddy and the Starbabies Quilt Challenge. Many of you are already very active in constructing ABC Quilts for our At-risk children and we hope youll find this challenge fun to be part of. We hope you will share this information with your friends at church and with your quilting groups.
There is lots of time left to put your quilt together since the deadline is not until February 28, 2006. We have plenty of kits in the office in New Hampshire.
On this website (links provided below) you will find ordering information and entry identification to attach to your prize quilt, Frequently Asked Questions, and more information on the quilts themselves.
Please contact Theresa Yocom in Washington (360-262-3589, or Nancy Henry in New Hampshire (603-330-0658).
This is a nationwide challenge. After judging all quilts will be sent back to the state where they were made. They will then be distributed to our children.
We have a National Judge who is helping us to recruit a national team of known judges. The prizes will be donated from several of ABC Quilts National Sponsors. Updated information will be found here on our web site at abcquilts.org. Thanks for participating!!
Theresa Yocom, ABC Buddy Challenge Co-Chairman
Three categories to participate in:
a) anyone that has ever made an ABC Quilt
b) new quilters to ABC quilts and
c) school children and school groups in Kindergarten through Grade 12.
There will be a total of 15 winners. Quilts are to use three of the Buddy and Starbabies fabrics that are recognizable on the front of the quilts with a total finished size of minimum 136 and a maximum of 180.
The judges will select winners based on expression of the theme- Love and Comfort, as well as creativity and durability. Tied quilts and machine quilted are preferred for durability purposes as are machine pieced or machine appliquéd quilts. Each quilt needs to be completed and must include a muslin tag securely basted on the back with the following information:
ABC Quilts, Love and Comfort to You, State, Year Made, First Name of Maker.
Also, for identification purposes pin an entry form to your quilt with a safety pin.
There will be great prizes! More prize details will be posted on the website. All quilts become the property of ABC Quilts but will be returned to the state where they were made following judging. They will be distributed to our target population. The 15 winners will be kept for display purposes.
Quilts are due on February 28, 2006.
